Volunteer Opportunities

We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities to suit your interests, skills, and availability. Here are just a few ways you can get involved:

Classroom Support: Assist teachers in managing classroom activities, providing individual student assistance, and preparing instructional materials.
Mentoring: Share your knowledge, experiences, and professional skills with our students to inspire and guide them towards successful career paths.
School Events: Help organize and facilitate school events, such as field trips, fundraisers, or school fairs.
Clubs and Extracurricular Activities: Share your passion and knowledge in a particular field by leading or supporting a student club or extracurricular activity.

Getting Started

To ensure the safety of our students, all volunteers must complete a volunteer application and undergo a background check. Our application process is straightforward and designed to place volunteers in roles where they can make the most significant impact.

Volunteer Application Process

Interested in volunteering at North Kitsap School District? Here are the basic steps you need to follow:

Download the Volunteer Packet: This contains all the necessary forms that you'll need to complete.
Complete the Forms: Fill out, sign, and return the Volunteer Application Checklist, Applicant Information form, Criminal History Supplement, and the Volunteer Information Release and Hold Harmless Agreement. Complete Section C of the Washington State Patrol Request for Criminal History.

Provide Identification: Attach a copy of your valid driver's license or a current North Kitsap School District student ID card.
Review Policies and Guidelines: Read and understand the district's vaccination requirements, Volunteer Expectations and Guidelines, and relevant district policies and procedures. Initial next to each statement on the form to confirm your understanding.

Submit the Application: Return all completed forms and documents to your local school office.
Background Check and Fingerprinting: Please schedule a fingerprinting appointment through the building office manager *Please note that a fee of $50.00 is applicable for this service. Payment can be made using Visa or Mastercard, whether debit or credit, check or exact cash.
Wait for Approval: You will not be permitted to engage in any activities that require fingerprint clearance until your fingerprints are returned with a clear status and the application is processed in the order that it is received. Please expect a processing time of 7 to 10 business days for your application. Once processed, you will receive notification regarding your volunteer status along with a copy of your Washington State Patrol Criminal History Report.

Additional Volunteer Information:

Your volunteer application is valid for two years. If you wish to continue volunteering after this period, you will need to submit a new application prior to the old one expiring.
Some applicants may be denied based on prior criminal offenses or other factors. Our top priority is the safety of our students, and we thoroughly evaluate all offenses before making a decision. If denied, you will receive an email or mail notification explaining the decision, along with a copy of your Washington State Patrol Criminal History report.
If you wish to transport students on field trips, please complete a Use of Private Vehicle form in addition to the volunteer packet. You can find this form at the school office or on our website.
If you plan to volunteer for athletic activities, please complete the Athletic Volunteer Application (instead of the standard volunteer application) and obtain permission from the head coach before volunteering.

Volunteers are provided the same liability coverage as district employees (excluding PTA/PTSAs, booster clubs, and other non-district organizations). This coverage does not include medical benefits for accidental injury, so we encourage you to maintain your own health or accident insurance.

Remember, if you're planning to transport students or volunteer for athletic activities, there are additional forms to complete. Athletic Volunteer Process

Thank you for considering volunteering with the Athletic Department at North Kitsap School District! Here's a simplified step-by-step guide on how to get started:

Express Your Interest: Get in touch with the head coach of the sport you wish to assist with, along with the athletic coordinator at the school. Please note, you must be at least 19 years old to volunteer as a coach, as per WIAA rule 20.5.0. You can reach out to Ed Call at (360) 396-3312 for Kingston High School and Kingston Middle School, or Matt Stanford at (360) 396-3125 for North Kitsap High School and Poulsbo Middle School.
Fill Out the Application: Complete the Athletic Volunteer Application for each sport you're interested in. This is required even if you're a current employee of the North Kitsap School District. Make sure all the information is filled out accurately to avoid processing delays.

Submit Required Documents: Along with your application, provide a copy of your current "Hands-On" First Aid/CPR Card and a copy of your current Driver’s License. Please note that online classes do not fulfill the "Hands-On" requirement.
Turn in Your Application: Submit your completed application and accompanying documents to the athletic coordinator or secretary at the school building.
Background Check and Fingerprinting: Upon receiving your application, a background check will be carried out, and you'll be required to come in for fingerprinting. You'll receive an email to schedule an appointment for this.
Complete Mandatory Training: Watch the "Lystedt Law" HB 1824 - Concussion Training video and print, sign, and turn in the Coach Certification Signature page & Volunteer Coach Checklist to the athletic office at the school where you wish to volunteer. These documents confirm that you've completed the necessary concussion management training.

Review Policies and Guidelines: Familiarize yourself with the Guidelines for Supervision of Athletes, District Policy & Procedure Information. Download, review, and keep a copy for your records.
