Summer School

NKSD is committed to helping students get back on track academically by providing a free credit recovery option. This allows students who may have fallen behind to catch up without the financial burden often associated with additional coursework. The credit recovery portion of the summer program runs from July 7, 2025, to August 8, 2025. Students will have access to courses in core subjects such as English, History, Science, Math, and PE/Health.

The credit recovery curriculum is delivered online through Fuel Education, enabling students to work at their own pace, either from home or within the supportive environment of Classroom 500 at North Kitsap High School. This classroom will be open from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Monday through Thursday, and staffed by a summer school teacher to provide assistance and direction.

Enrollment credit recovery courses opens on May 7, 2025. The process for credit recovery involves filling out an application listing only the classes the student has failed; the summer school staff will then enroll students in the necessary courses. The deadline for these applications is June 16, 2025.

The NKSD Summer School Program has a limited number of seats available. Priority will be given to upper-level students, and then it will descend through the grades. Once a student completes their course, and if additional seats become available, those on the waitlist will be offered spots. This ensures that as many students as possible can benefit from this summer educational opportunity.

The NKSD Summer School Program is carefully structured to ensure that students have every opportunity to succeed in their summer studies. To facilitate this, there are several critical dates and requirements that participants and their families must be aware of:

Enrollment Deadlines:

• Credit Recovery Course Registration: Opens on May 7, 2025, and applications must be submitted by June 16, 2025. To register, students need to fill out an application listing only the classes they have failed.

Mandatory Orientation and Instructional Meetings:

• First Meeting: All students enrolled in the summer school must attend an orientation meeting on July 7th or 8th at Classroom 500 in North Kitsap High School. This meeting is crucial as it includes:
  • An introduction to the summer school staff.
  • Detailed instructions on how to access and navigate the online learning platforms.
  • Clarification of the academic expectations and resources available during the summer session.
  • Assignment of login credentials for enrolled courses.

Attendance Requirements:

• Students are expected to manage their study schedules responsibly. While they may work from home, they are encouraged to utilize Classroom 500 from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Monday through Thursday, where they can access direct instructional support and resources.
• Regular attendance at the classroom is particularly advised for those who may need additional guidance or who thrive in a structured learning environment.

Course Completion and Seat Availability:

• As students complete their courses, seats may become available for those on the waitlist. This is especially important as priority seating is given first to seniors, then juniors, sophomores, and freshmen, in that order.
• The school will make every effort to accommodate as many students as possible, but availability cannot be guaranteed, emphasizing the importance of meeting all stated deadlines and requirements.

End of Program:

• The last day of the summer school session is August 8, 2025. All coursework must be completed by this date to earn credit for the summer term.

Classroom 500 at North Kitsap High School will be available Monday-Thursday from 8:00-12:00 for students to have access to the instructor and place to work on their course work.  A summer school teacher will be available for help and direction during those times as well.  Students will need to bring their own school provided chrome books.

The Credit Recovery curriculum is an online curriculum through Fuel Education.  Students are welcome to work at their own pace at home or utilize the 500 classroom and times available to do their course work.  Initial Credit course work will be done through the online instructor.  Students are however welcome to use the classroom space and time to access their course work July 7th – Aug 8th.

Credit Recovery Online Application

All students who are Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, or Seniors during the 2024-2025 school year and have failed/NC one or more terms of a course before the Spring Semester of 2024-2025 will need to sign up by June 16, 2025.

Any students who fail a Spring Term course will be allowed to enroll in person with a high school counselor on the first two days of the summer term - July 7th and 8th.

Enrollment will be closed to everyone at 12:00 PM on July 8, 2025.
