Homeless/Transition Housing Students: 
  • If you are homeless and need guidance on shelter/housing, available resources and what to do next, call 2-1-1 anytime or the Housing Solutions Center at (360) 473-2035
  • McKinney-Vento Act: If you have a child living in temporary housing (including but not limited to parks, motels, hotels, cars, doubling up with other families, etc.), they may be able to qualify for McKinney-Vento status.   • THE SALVATION ARMY: 832 6TH St., Bremerton, 8am – 4pm (360) 373-5550, provides the following free services. Call or visit for details: ID, Haircuts, food boxes, bread & produce, breakfast and lunch (see FreeMeal Sites), diapers and toiletries, utility assistance, bus tokens and passes, resource for blankets and winter outerwear. Community Voice Mail: provides free voice mail for those who need to receive messages but have no phone.
  • ID CARD: Go to any branch of the Dept. of Licensing (courthouse,Wheaton Way, etc.) and pick up a copy of the brochure, “Identification and Residence Requirements”. If you need help with this, see The Salvation Army.
  • BLANKETS/CLOTHES/TO GO FOOD BAGS: Taking It To The Streets Ministries – Pastor Art at (360) 689-3219 and asst.MaryAnn at (360) 550-6926. For Kitsap and Seattle: You can designate where you’d like your gifts to go, otherwise they go where most needed.
  • DSHS: You may apply for benefits at their office at 4710 Auto Center Blvd. in Bremerton. You can now also apply ON-LINE by going to www.washingtonconnection.org/home. After submitting your application and need to be interviewed, or complete an eligibility review, or make any changes to your case, you can call 1-877-501-2233.

Drug and Alcohol Awareness

When surveyed, the majority of KHS students stated that they chose not to drink or do drugs. 
  • Shawnee Hathaway-Ochs is KHS's Student Assistants Specialist and she helps run the school's drug and alcohol awareness program.  Contact her at SHATHAWAY-OCHS@nkschools.org for more information. 
  • Al-Anon (which includes Alateen for youngermembers) offers hope and help to families and friends of alcoholics. No matter what relationship youhave with an alcoholic, whether they are still drinking or not, all who havebeen affected by someone else’s drinking are welcome at Al-Anon/Alateen.
  • TeensHealth was created for teens looking for honest, accurate information and advice about health, relationships, and growing up.
