In 2012, there were over a million and a half programmers and software designers in the United States. Software Developers with a bachelor's degree made an average of $95,000 a year and employment is expected to increase 22% over the next ten years. Programmers with a bachelor's degree made an average of $74,000 with an employment increase of 8%, still higher than the national average. As computerized appliances and personal devices pervade every part of our lives, more and more trained coders will be needed.
